Wilts team used to throw the ball over the backboard to Wilt standing in front of ther basket for an easy dunk. Also, the offense took the ball out of bounds under the basket if that was were the ball was to be taken out.
OPPONENTS WHEN PLAYING WILT’S TEAM AT HOME, WOULD PUT UP NETTING OR CHICKEN WIRE AND ATTACH IT TO THE TOP OF THE BACKBOARD ALL THE WAY TO CEILING. Thus. Wilt’s outbounds play was stymied.
The next year was the year that the rule came in that you had to take the ball outside the 3 second area on either side of the basket depending the designated spot by the official if the ball went out of bounds on the endline under the offense’s backboard.
Also, that was the year that it was illegal to throw the ball from out of bounds over ny part of a rectangle backboard.
