On October 29, D-1 UMaine defeated D-3 Husson University 108-79 at the Cross Center in Bangor. Then last Saturday, USCAA (United States Collegiate Athletic Association) Div.1 UMaine@Fort Kent Bengals upset the D-1 UMaine at the “PIT” 80-75. Last nite at Newman Gym on the Husson University Campus D-3 Husson edged USCAA Div.1 UMaine at Fort Kent 82-80.
This means in the 3 game exhibition round robin between UMaine, Husson and Fort Kent each team won a game and lost a game.
Fort Kent lead much of the first half as they were sparked by 6’7″ senior Joel McCloskey from Howland, Maine, who transferred to Fort Kent from UMaine@Farmington paced his team with 28 points to a 50-41 half-time lead.
However, at half-time, Husson Coach Warren Caruso made some key defensive adjustments. First, they held McCloskey to just 10 points and held the Bengals as a team to just 30 second half points.
Also, Husson limited FK to just 1 for 8 from beyond the arc after the Bengals were 4 for 9 in the first half shooting 44.4%
They also did a great job in holding Roosevelt Smith to 12 points after he scored 29 against D-1 UMaine in FK’s big upset win..
Raheem Anderson led Husson with 31 points on 10 for 23 from the floor, 5 for 9 from 3 point land and 6 for 6 from the line. Washburn’s Mitch Worcester a transfer from D-1 UMaine supported Anderson with 24 big points on 8 for 14 shooting from the floor, matched Anderson’s 5 for 9 from beyond the arc and was 3 for 3 from the line. Justin Martin had 16 rebounds. Anderson and Elin ItKin had 4 assists each.
For FK, McCloskey ended up with 38 points to lead all scorers along with 12 rebounds. Bobby Syvanthong scored 14 points along with 5 assists and Smith had 12 points along with 13 boards.
Husson was 29 for 81 from the floor for 35.8%, Fort Kent went 34 for 71 for 47.9%.
Husson went 10 for 34 from 3 point land for 29.4% and Fort Kent was 5 for 17 for 29.4%
Husson shot 14 for 20 from the charity stripe for 70% and Fort Kent went 7 for 10 for 70%
Husson had 15 assists, FK had 17.
Husson had 44 rebounds, FK 41.

Game was well played by the Eagles considering it was just their 2nd exhibition game of the season as they beat the team, who had beaten the team that had beaten them.
Husson is back in action on Thursday, November 17th when they entertain in state rival St. Joseph’s.
Coach Tom Bird’s Bengals are off today as they are traveling to New York for Friday, Saturday and Sunday games.
