The 8th annual Taylor Tip-Off a statewide charitable basketball event will take place this Sunday, Nov. 6th in gyms in Saco, Falmouth, Gray, Pineland Center in New Glouster, Waterville, and Hampden. Over 150 girls and boys teams in grades 5 through 12 will compete.
After 2 years of supporting the Taylor sisters who tragically lost their parents, to domestic violence in 2009, a new fund was established in 2011 to support other children across the state of Maine, who also lost their parents to domestic violence. a 100 percent of proceeds from the 8th annual Taylor Tip-off will go to effective children. Over $130,000 has been raised to date.
This fund raising event allows players, coaches, officials, parents and fans to enjoy competitive basketball while supporting young, innocent victims of domestic violence.
The champions of this event are not necessarily be the best basketball players with the most points scored, the best jump shot, or toughest defense. The champions of the Taylor Tip-off are the teams raising the most money for Taylor Memorial Fund, supporting young victims of domestic violence.
At the Hampden Recreation Center site all workers, timers,scorers, referees, supervisors volunteer their time. 15 IAABO Eastern Maine Board 111 officials have volunteered their time to officiate these games.
At Hampden the first 2 games start on two courts at 9:30am and run on the hour with the last 2 games starting at 4:30pm. There will be 8 games on court 1 and 8 games on court 2 for a total of 16 games. All games are high school boys and girls games.
6 Girls games on Court one 9:30am-10:30am-11:30am-12:30pm-1:30pm-2:30pm and 10 boys games, 8 on Court 2 stating at 9:30am and the last on at 4:30pm and there will be 2 boys games on court two also at 3:30pm and 4:30pm.
