UMaine Men’s hoop teammates elect veterans Beal, Calixe & Melmed as captains for 2016-17

Veterans Senior 6’6″ guard/forward Garret Beal, Juniors 6’0″ point guard Aaron Calixe and 6” guard Garvey Melmed have been selected as captains for this years 2016-17 UMaine Men’s Basketball Team.

This was announced today on goblackbears.com men’s basketball website by Head Coach Bob Walsh who had high very praise for each player voted for captains by their teammates.

Interesting in that all 3 have solid Maine backgrounds and connections. Beal from Beals Island, Maine and played for Beals High School, Calixe, from Stoughton, Massachusetts and played for Stoughton HS in Massachusetts and then played 2 years for the Lee Academy Preppers and Melmed from Greenbush, Maine played for Old Town High School.

It is a great honor to be selected by your teammates to be captains. It requires great leadership skills, by demanding 100 percent effort from yourself everyday be it a practice, a workout or a game and making a very big effort to help make your teammates better.

Basketball Captains are usually better people then they are basketball players and this is definitely the case in the selection of these three individuals.

Congratulations to all three for their important positive leadership roles. All three are great positive role models both on and off the court for their teammates, coaches and especially for young UMaine Men’s basketball fans.
