Albany Upsets Stonybrook on Their Homecourt in AE Semi-finals 61-59

The Albany Great Danes seeded 4th in the AE Tournament standings held number one Stonybrook to just 59 points, in the AE semi-finals after holding Maine to 49 in the quarterfinals.

Stonybrook had beaten the Great Danes twice during the regular season 50-43 and 75-70 in the last regular season AE Game just a week ago.

Albany lead 28-22 at the half and Stonybrook outscored Albany 37-33 in the second half, but it was not enough as Mike Black hit a shyt just before the final buzzer to give the Danes the 61-59 upset. Albany was just 9-7 in the AE regular season and Stonybrook was 14-2.

Albany was 21-52 from the floor for 40%, SB was 17-51 for 33%

Albany was 8 for 18 from 3 point land for 44% and SB shot 56% on 5 for 9.

From the line Albany was 11-16 for 69% and SB shot 80% on 320 for 25.

IN assists Albany had 10 to just 3 for SB.

Turnoivers had Albany with 11 and SB 7.

In the personal foul departemnt Albany committed 22 and SB 19.

Mike Black lead the Danes with 16 and Iati added 14. For SB Puriefoy had 16 and Coley added 15.

Albany now travels to Vermont Saturday for a noontime ESPN-TV Game. Vermont beat Albany twice during the regular season 50-43 and 70-45.

Albany’s quarterfinal and semi-final wimns were on their home court. They will have to play 2nd seeded Vermont winners over 6th seeded UMBC 85-72 at Vermont, losing their homecourt advantage.

UMBC upset Hartford in the quarter-finals.

Albany averaged 73 points a game in the 2 games to Albany’s 55. Defensively Vermont averaged 57 and Albany 54.

Albany won both games on a last few second scores in upsetting Maine 50-49 and then SB 61-69.
