Hampden Edges South Portland Behind Zack Gilpins 23 points

In a low scoring atate final the Hampden Broncos who had to overcome a weak regular season schedule, a slow dowwn attempt by Lawrence led from start to finish in edging So. Portland 45-41.

The Broncos finshed the season undefeated at 22-0. Zack Gilpin scored more than half of Hampdens points with 23 points. Hyland was held to 2 points in the first half and finished with 17.

Hampden was able to shut down the Riots inside game and that was the difference in the game and they also forced Hyland into several real poor shots, especially at the end of the game with the game on the line.

Hampden finishes as the only boys team that was undefeated in the state. Big factor in the game was the fact that Hampden had 3 prervious games on the Augusta Civic Center floor and it showed as they shot the ball for a better percentage and took better shots.

Gilpens performance should certainly put him in contention for the Maine Gatorade Player of the Year as that award is not limited to seniors.

Congratulations to Hampden for their undefeated state class A championship.
