Oh. What A Difference 72 Plus Hours Can Make for UMaine Men

Just a little more than 72 hours ago the Maine Men Black Bears sufferred a very tough loss to the last place Binghamton Bearcats, losing at the buzzer 57-56.

Tonight just the opposite as theu knocked of first place tied Vermont who had beat Stonybrook 71-68 at Alfond Arena before the biggest crowd in many a moon for a basketball game.

Maine trailed by 5 41-36 at half time, trailed also by 9 50-31 but rallied to win by 3 points 71-68.

This proves that Maine can play with the Albanys, Vermonts and Stonybrooks in America East.

Maine shot 47% from the floor on 28 for 60 and Vermont was 24 for 55 for 44%.

Maine had a better nite from behind the arc as they went 8-22 fior 36% to Vermonts 30% on 6 for 20.

Maine was 7-9 from theline for 78% to Vermont’s 14-18 for 74%.

Maine had only 14 turnovers. also had 19 assists and committed 16 personal fouls.

Vermont on thre other hand committed just 10 turnovers, but omnly had 10 assists and committed 12 personal fouls.

The difference in the game tonight was that Maine shot 10% higher from behind the 3 point line, had 4 more assists and committed 5 fewer personal fouls then they had been averaging per game going into tonights game.

Edwards lead the charge to the comeback with 22 points and Fraser followed with 20.Ruggs had 21 for Vermont and Carisimo added 15.

Excellent comeback win seeing that they had blown a 12 point halftime lead Saturday and then trailed by as many as 0 midway thru the 2nd half.

I have said all along that UMaine has as much talent as any of the other top AE Teams and tonite proved that completely. However, Maine has got to sustain this for the rest of the regular AE Regular season so that they can get a top seed for the conference tourney.

Maine is now 3-3 and Vermont 3-2 in the Conference Standings.
