Is This a Must Win for Maine Men Against Binghamton This Weekend.

The Maine Men 7-10 overall and 22 in conference play face Binghamton 2-15 overall and 0-4 in America L’east Conference Play at the “Pit” in Orono this weekend.

Next Week Maine faces Vermont in another showdown game.

Maine can ill afford to look by Binghamton, or any team on their schedule for that matter.

Currently they are in the middle of the pack with a 2-2 conference mark.

Ahead of them are Stonybrook, Hartford, Vermont, Albany, BU and below them are UNH, UMBC and Binghamton.

There is no playin game for the 8-9 placed teams as BU cannot participate in the conference tourney.

If Maine does not get moving in the win column then they are bound to face a tough first round opponent in the AE Tourney.

Maine must cut down on their turnovers (20 per game ave.) and their personal fouls per game (22 averaging per game) and improve their 3 point shooting which is a a very poor 25.6%.

Look for Binghamton to zone Maine and force the Black Bears to prove that they can make 3 pointers on at least a 40% basis.

Also, this could be an historic weekend game as this could be possibly one of the last college basketball mens game to be played in the “Old Pit”.

It’s future is very much up in the air as Maine looks to play their home games at the New Cross Insurance Center in Bangor next year.

However, this still presents a major problem for Maine Basketball Teams as they still will not have a regular home site to practice on on a regular basis.

Remember, Maine tried this Bangor Gig earlier in the late 80’s and early 90’s for several years and that did not pan out and they practiced their on a regular basis and had better winning percentage teams but could still not draw any better than they did when they played at Alfond.
