1/13-19/13 Player Tip of the Week

What is harder? Guarding a player with the ball or without the ball?

Watching and reffing alot of games so far this season more players have difficulty guarding a player without the ball.

Here are a couple of REMINDER tips to help you improve guarding a player without the ball.

Usually a defensive player will be guarding a player without the ball more than they will a player with the ball in a game.

More defesnive mistakes occur guarding a player without the ball. Because if the defesnive player guarding a player without the ball does not keep the ball you and man triangle at all times, the defender cannot help out on defense, cannot defend the backcoor cut or the front flash cut.

KEEP THE TRIANGLE. YOU, THE BALL AND THE MAN YOU ARE GUARDING…the triangle will change shape and size as the player you are guarding moves away or towards the ball or the ball moves towards away from you the defender.

Also, it is very hard to keep the triangle if your man is moving and the ball is moving at the same time….If you have to point your index fingers at your man you are guarding and the ball and this will help you keep the triangle.
