With the Maine Men ay 2-8 and the Women at 1-9 let’s not get to discouraged as non-conference play is just games to get ready for conference play and conference play is just to get ready for the conference tournament in March.
The only thing that really matters, as both teams are automically in the conference tournament despite their won-lost record and final position in the standings, all they have to do is win 3 straight games by peaking at the right time…and they get to the big dance.
The Men have certainly got to get better defesnively after giving up 90 plus points in their last 3 ga,mes in l,osees to FSU, Army and Marist. Also, they have got to improve their 3 point shooting which is at a woeful 23%. Also, they have got to improve their assist 12 per game ratio to turnovers per game of 16.5 and reduce their personal fouls as they are averaging over 20 plus per game.
THey have 2 non-conference games left to get ready for conference play. They play Florida Coastal this Saturday at Alfond at 2:00pm.
The Women’s team on the other hand have got to find some scoring from other than Roberts who is the only player averaging in doiuble figured with 11 points per game. They are shooting just 28% for 3 pointers and have got to like the Men reduce their turnovers as they are curremtly averaging 22.5 per game along with just 11.5 assists per game.
In their last two outings they only scorer 78 points total, losing 51-38 and 44-40.
They have 3 game after Christmas before hey go ointo conference play as they have a 3 game road swing starting at James Madison and ending with VCU and. 3 games in five days will give the Women a chance too get alot of action for more players and try to find more scoring punch.
January will start conference play and a New Years Wish that they both get their problems corrected as they head into the New Year of conference play, where it really matters, but themost important part of the new year is in March come AE Tourney Time.
