UMaine Women Wins More Battles but Loses the War To Siena

The UMaine “United Nations” Womens Black Bear Basketball team won the battle of statistics from the floor but lost the war, the game 53-50 after blowing a 14 point lead in the midway point of the second half.

Siena hit a three at the buzzer after UMaine turned the ball over waiting to get the last shot with the score tied 50-50.

Maine won the statistical battle shooting 21 for 51 for 41.2% to Sienas 17-54 for 31.5%. Maine made 7 for 21 3 pointers for 33.3% to Sienas 5 for 23 for 21.7%.

Maine committed l less turnover with 20 to Sienas 21. Umaine had 13 assists to Sienas 10.

The only other thing Siena won besides the game was from the foul line were they made 14 for 16 while Maine was only 1-4 and Siena committed 13 fouls to Maines 16.

Siena actually won this game at the foul line shooting 12 more free throw attempts and making 13 more then Maine.

Scoring with the clock stopped on foul shots helped Siena erase the 14 point second half UMaine lead.

Maine blows the big lead and then blows the last shot attempt by turning over the ba;ll with 9.9 seconds left in the game while they were holding for the last shot.

Maine lead at halftime 33-21, but scored only 17 second half points to Sienas 32. Siena won the right half.

Maine now drops to 1-7 in non-conference play.
