Reaction to College Player Jack Taylor’s 138 points in an EXHIBITION Game

NOW WE FIND OUT THAT THE TEAM GRINNELL WAS PLAYING CALLED IT AN EXHIBTION GAME. NOW THIS CHANGES THE SITUATION. YES IT WAS AN OUTSTANDING FEAT, HOWEVER EXHIBITIONS GAMES ARE NOTHING MORE THAN ‘GLORIFIED SCRIMMAGES’.

I WONDER HOW MUCH EACH TEAM GOT FROM THIS “exhibitionn game”?

Grinnel College’s sophomore Jack Taylor scored 138 points in a 179-101 win this past week. He scored 27 3 pointers out of 71 attempts and 25 for 37 for 2 pointers and 7 for 10 from the foul line. He was 52 for 108 for 48% overall from the floor.

He played 36 minutes.

Usually Grinnell substitutes every few miniutes or so 5 for 5. However, in this game Taylor had 58 points at half time so the coach and his teammates decided to feed him to break the collegiate record.

Taylor averaged a field goal attempt every 20 seconds.

He shot 38% from “teaserland.”,,,,Above average to excellent three point shooters shoot 45%

He shot 68% from the floor on 2 pointers which is way above the 50% that is considered excellent for any shooter.

He shot 48% from the floor for 3’s and 2’s……..which is just below where excellent shooters would shoot.

He was 7 for 10 from the foul,line for 70%….excellent foul shooters will shoot 90%.

Maybe he was to close to the basket and had to much time to shoot his foul shots or was to wide open when he shot..

Now D1 St. Marys of California started this run and gun shoot as quick as you can and as often as you can quite a few years ago.

However, this style has never won an NCAA Championship and I don’t think it has even ever won a conference championship.

A couple of questions. How many assists did the player who had the most assists for Grinnell actually have?

Did Taylor have to ice his arm down after the game?

Did Taylor even have an assist in the game?

Why didn’t the opponent put 2 or 3 men on him when they saw what was happening with his teammates connstantly passing the ball to him?

Giving up good shots to get Taylor the ball.

It was an amazing performance. but not one you would want young players to watch and to copy. “There is no I in the word team”.

An I thought old Tommy “Tommygun” Heinshon of the old Boston Celtics never met a shot he didn’t like.

Taylor far surpasses Heinshon in this game.
