Middle school, high school players can compete in August basketball tourney at Auditorium

The Summer Basketball Jamboree, the first of several basketball events planned at the Bangor Auditorium before it is torn down next year, will be held Aug. 6-12.
Here’s your player’s and team’s chance to get some summer game experience on the historic old Bangor Auditorium court. This basketball facility known as the “Mecca,” has been the site of the Eastern Maine basketball tourneys and state games since 1956.
This jamboree style basketball event is open to all boys and girls middle school and high school age teams, including those through clubs such as MBR, MB Nation, MAC, YBOA and AAU teams.
This will especially be an exciting opportunity for middle-school age players, as they probably have never played on this basketball floor. Also, it may be the last chance for high school players who do not make the tournament next year to play at this great facility.
Think of all the great teams and players and their performances over the past 56 basketball seasons that have taken place in the “Old Barn.”
This is the basketball court that Bangor High School played all its home games until 1984 and where John Bapst Memorial High School has played its home games every season since it opened in 1956.
Entrance fee for the Jamboree is $75 per game each team wishes to play. Teams may register to play as many games on a day or on as many days as they want. Games are subject to sufficient participation in each level. A total of 59 game slots are available. Game slots will be from 2-9:30 p.m. on Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
There will be an admission fee of $3 for adults and $1 for children (under 12).
Games will consist of two 20-minute running time halves. The clock will stop during the final two minutes of each half. Overtime if needed, will be sudden death, the first team to score two consecutive points wins. Teams will get three timeouts per game. There will be a five-minute warmup prior to each game. There will be a three-minute halftime intermission.
Players must be eligible to play in middle school or high school in the fall of 2012 and certified officials will be used for all games.
All scheduling, correspondence and updates will be by email. Please enclose the coach’s email on the application form.
Payment is by check to the Bangor Auditorium or by Visa, Mastercard or Discover and must accompany the application form.
Deadline for applications is Aug. 1. Please return application and payment to the Bangor Auditorium, Summer Basketball Jamboree, 100 Dunton St. Bangor, Maine 04401; phone (207) 947-5555. Also, e-mail Mike Dyer at mike.dyer@bangormaine.gov for application form or further information.
