Hampden’s Christian McCue Heads BDN 57th All-Maine Schoolboy Basketball Team

Christian McCue the 6″2″ shooting guard moved to point guard for this season, where he sacrificed his scoring for the good of his team and did outstasnding job of moving from wing to point guard and the leader of his team.

He was selected as the top vote getter in the 57th Bangor Daily News All-Maine Schoolboy First Basketball Team.

NcCue who was voted Mr. Basketball for the state of Maine for the MABC/McDonalds Award. the co-KVAC Class A North Player of the Year and the MVP of the Eastern Maine Class A Tournament makes it a deserving finish to an outstanding high school career.

He was an honorable mention selection as a junior in 2011.

He led his Hampden Broncos to the State A Final where he shone in defeat with 30 points in a tough loss to fellow First Team All-State member Jon Amabile of Deering.

The Bangor Daily News All Maine Selection is the oldest in the state and began in 1956 and it is the most complete All-State Selections.

THe BDN sends out ballots to coaches, officials, sportswriters, TV and Radio Media, etc all over the state and when a player is the top vote getter from basketball people from all over the state that is the ultimate basketball award, as Mr. Basketball is a coaches award and fewer votes are involved in this selection. The final selection is made from 10 nominated players reduced to semi-finalists and the winner is chosen by 3 media and 2 former coaches.

The Gatorade Award which can go to any class player in any grade is selected by the Gatorade Company upon recommendations by some basketball people.

The other first team selections were Jonesport Beals Garet Beal, Yarmouth’s Josh Britton, and Mt. Blue Cam Sennick.

Second Team was Louis Doistatio, Cheverus, Dustin Cole, Bonny Eagle, Cole Libby, Bonny Eagle, Liam Langsas, York and Pat Stewart, Bangor.

The third teas was Bobby Cote, Biddeford, Cody St. Germaine, Dirigo, Jordan Hersom, Leavitt, Mike McClung. Central Aroostook, and Lamson Abwock, Deering.

Of the 15 lst team, 2nd team and 3rd team selections only 3 were underclassmen the rest were seniors. There were 10 Class A selections, 2 Class B, 2 Class C and 1 class D.

Therre were 24 Honorable Memntions. 5 selections played on state championship teams. 1 played on a state runnerup, 2 played on regional championship teams, and the rest played in semi-final or semi-final games.

10 selections were from Western maine and 5 were from Eastern Maine. This shows that votes come from all over the entire state to make these selctions.

With just 3 underclassmen on the 3 teams selected 2 juniors, Garet Beal, JB and Lawson Abwock of Deering and sophomore Dustin Cole of Bonny Eagle means we will see 12 brand new faces from some of the Honorable Mention Selections that are underclassmen and some new names that were not on the top 39 players selected this year.

The BDN did another outstanding job of their selections as they always do, and there are no complaints from this department BLOG. I think they hit the nail right on the head.

Congratulations to all the selectees and the Bangor Daily News Sports Writers.
