NIT Championship Game Gets Very Little Coverage from the Media

On a night when there was no NCAA Men’s or Women’s Tournament Games and no Women’s NIT Tournament Games, the NIT championship game between Stanford and Minnesota got very little coverage from ESPN or from other media outlets.

There was a time when the NIT was “THE TOURNAMENT” back in the 40’s and 50’s and the NCAA was the tag-a-long Tournament.

In fact, teams could play in both tournaments.

The original NIT field of teams were 16 and then grew to 32 and then NCAA D1 went from 16 to 32 to 66 and now currently 68.

100 teams 68 in the big dance and 32 in the NIT of the 351 played in these 2 tournaments.
