With Christian McCue of Hampden being one of the three finalists for the Boys Mr. Basketball Award this weekend at the McDonalds Banquet and Games at Husson University., someone asked me who I thought was Maines Most Successful Basketball Family was.

Chrisitans brothers Jesse and Danny were certainbly outstanding high school players who went on to play College Basketball. Jesse in Florida , and Danny Curently playing at MIT D3 in the National Final 16 Tournament.

This I guess brought the question to mind by the questionarrie.

My selection for this would be the Gavett Family of Orono. All three boys Willie, Peter and Steve, were captains of their high school teams, all lead their teams to State Class B Championships, All were lst All Maine Team Bangor Daily News Selections. All went on to play at the University of Maine and had successful careers there.

There were no Mr. basketball award at the time they played in high school in the late 60’s for Willie and Peter and the early 70’s for Steve.
