Interesting Finish to Lee-Penquis Game as Lee Prevails in 2 OT’s 51-50.

Lee Academy lead Penquis by as many as 14 points 37-23 after taking a 5 point lead at hal-ftime 28-23. They ran off 9 unaswered points to get that 37-23 lead. The  Patriots then went on their on 20-0 run to take a 6 point lead 43-37. Then Lee Answered to take the lead again and then Penquis tied it at 49-49 to send the game into overtime. At the end of regualtion time Lee held the ball 45 seconds missed a shot at 5 seconds.to send game to first overtime. IN THE FIRST OVERTIME EACH TEAM MADE  1 OF 2 FROM THE LINE for the last 3 minutes of the first overtime Penquis sat in a 2-3 zone and Lee held the ball out front.. Lee then called a time out with 10 seconds left and set up a play, but Lee was called for a violation when a player ran out of bounds on the OFFENSIVE END line. Penquis got the ball back with about 4.6 seconds but missed an attempt at the horn to send the game in to The second overtime with the score 50-50.

Lee got the tap in the 2nd overtime  Lee brought the ball down to see Penquis in that 2-3 zone again, so Lee chose to hold  the ball  the remainder of the overtime until Penquis came after Lee with about 30 seconds left. After a time Lee time out. LEE TURNED IT OVER ON A BAD PASS and PENQUIS TURNED IT OVER ON A BAD PASS WITH 13 SECONDS LEFT

Johnson was fouled with 5.8 seconds ON A DRIVE  and made one of 2 to give Lee the Lead again 51-50, However he missed the second shot, Penquis got the rebound on the miss and Penquis MISSED A LONG FIELD GOAL ATTEMPT. .

Johnson had a great game for Lee with 25 points, Best had 24 in a sterling performance for Penquis and Lyford added 17.

The strategy by Penquis and Lee both will be second guessed in this one. “Takes two to tango”, but the real onis is really on the defense. By letting Lee hold the ball for the final shot in both regulation and the first overtime, if Lee did score as time ran out, Penquis did not leave them self enough time to counter to tie or win the game.

Of the last 7 minutes of the game there was only about 2  minutes of basketball, the rest was just watching Lee hold the ball out front as Penquis was willing to stay back in that 2-3 zone with the score tied at 49-49 and 50-50.

Lee now moves on to meet 7th seed Houlton who upset  3rd seeded MA after upsetting 2nd seeded Sumner in the quarter-finals.
