Week of 12/25-31 Player Tip of the Week

What do you aim for when you are shooting at the basket?

Most players will say they either just over the front of the rim or just in front of the back of the rim. Some will say they don’t aim for anything, they just shoot at the basket.

If players shoot for just over the front of the rim then if they are just an inch or less short then the ball will hit the rim.

If players shoot front just in front of the rim and they are just an inch or so strong then the ball will hit the rim.

When aiming at any type of target you should always shoot  for the middle of the target. If you were shooting at a target with a bow and arrow or a gun you would aim for the middle bullseye, not at the top of the target (back of the rim) or at the bottom of the target (front of the rim). Your margin of error to hit the rim is an inch or less when aiming for in front of the back of the rim or just over the front of the rim.

Also, by aiming for the middle you will have a much gtreater margin of error at least 8 plus inches if you are off the middle spot of the basket without hitting the rim.

Aim for the middle and this will give you more arch for your shot.
