Week of 12/18-24 Coaches Tip of the Week

Mark the Dots to the Spots

Following up on the players tip of the week. Coach to make sure that your players are squaring up on the foul line for a foul shot, place a magic marker dot on the spot of on the foul line where the little dot lined up with the center of the front rim.

Then place a dot on the floor even with the outside edge of each side of the rim, 6 inches back from the foul line.

Now you should have 3 spots marked on the floor. One for the shooting foot and two for the shooters non shooting left or right foot.

Then mark your players sneakers at the very front of their sneakers with the magic marker. Now have the players match their dots on the snreakers with the dots on the floor and you will know that they are perfectly squared to the basket. Both their feet and their shoulders.

Players should do this in a game while they are waiting for the referee to report the foul before they shoot. There will not be any non Shooting dot or spot but their should be one for the shooting feet and then the players can line their non shooting foot even with the outside edge on the rim/basket and  6 inches back from the foul line.  Now they know they are perfectly squared to the basket.
